The Institute of Solid Mechanics was formally established in 2018 and is the main support unit of the Department of Solid Mechanics at Jiangsu University. The discipline is the key discipline of Jiangsu Province's “Eleventh Five-Year Plan”, “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” and “Thirteen Five-Year Plan”. It was the first batch of master's degree awarding points in 1981. In 2003, it was granted the right to confer doctoral degrees. In 2012, it was approved for mechanics. Postdoctoral research station, and the first-level doctoral degree granting rights was granted in 2017. The Institute has a team of young and middle-aged academic researchers with excellent quality, vitality and reasonable age structure. There are 9 professors, 6 associate professors, 4 lecturers and experimenters, including 7 doctoral supervisors. The backbones of the institute are professors with PhD degree. They are experienced in research and teaching with unique academic vision in their respective fields. They have high personal comprehensive qualities. Their research interests complement each other and surround the coupling theory of force and multiple physical fields and structural damage/fracture theory in smart materials and structures.
Scientific Research
The research of the Institute attaches importance to the combination of learning, research and production in different professions and different academic backgrounds. The main research directions include: multiphysics coupling theory, structural damage cross-scale intelligent monitoring theory, flexible array transducer, piezoelectric composite key technology, advanced sensing theory and measurement technology, micro-nano mechanics, new composite materials / Structural damage mechanics testing techniques and characterization methods, fatigue damage and fracture mechanics. In the past five years, the Institute has hosted and undertaken provincial and ministerial research projects, including one national key natural science cooperation project, one national “863 Program” project, nine National Natural Science Foundation projects, and 11 provincial and ministerial projects. In the projects, 23 patents were applied, of which 7 were authorized, and 6 high-level domestic and international academic conferences were held.
Talent Development
The Institute has achieved remarkable results in undergraduate and postgraduate training. In the aspect of undergraduate training, it pays attention to cultivating a student with high sense of social responsibility and good scientific and cultural literacy, who has a solid foundation in mathematical physics and mechanics, strong mechanical modeling, engineering calculation and experimental ability, and innovative consciousness. In 2014, the major of engineering mechanics was approved. In the aspect of postgraduate training, we actively cultivate high-level innovative professional talents for our country. In the past five years, there have been 4 graduated doctoral students, 11 doctoral students, and more than master's students. Each year, outstanding young teachers and doctoral students are sent to visit 2-3 students at home and abroad. And outstanding young teachers and doctoral students are sent to visit famous universities at home and abroad every year.
Outlook
The institute of solid mechanics is committed to developing itself into an innovative base and a cradle of talents for fundamental mechanics and major engineering research
