On the afternoon of Sep. 9th, the opening ceremony for our fresh students was held in the first auditorium of the conference center. All theleaders of our faculty, the students of the year 2013 and 2014, directors ofour two departments, PhD supervisors, and study instructors attended theceremony. The ceremony was chaired by deputy chairman of faculty affairs committee Quan Chen.

Firstly, Dean Prof. Ying Luo presented the warm welcome to all ofthe new students on behalf of the faculty. Then, he expressed his some suggestions on how to grasp and cherish your time in university, and also encourage ourstudents to cultivate independent and dialectical thinking, always pursueexcellence, appreciate and assume responsibility, establish dreams and combine study、thinking with practice so that they can improve all-around qualities and employment competitiveness.
Prof. Jinxing Liu, as a representative of outstanding teachers, gavea brief talk. He combined his growing and learning experience into his speech to encourage students to be enthusiastic and make full use of their time tolearn professional knowledge and to embrace new college life. And directorsof the department of civil engineering and the department of mechanics and engineering science elaborated our disciplines and majors in details. Theirinteresting and vivid introduction won much applause from the students, helpingthem better acquaint with the profession in a pleasant atmosphere, as well asarousing their enthusiasm to study the subjects. Jianhui Wang, vice chairman ofthe Students’ Union, Zhaochang Zhang, representative of the graduate studentsand Wenyan Zhang, representative of freshmen, spoke respectively to express their thoughts and experiences about college life.
In the end, Hong Zhang, Chairman of Faculty Affairs Committee, made the closing speech. She raised her high expectations for ourfreshmen, hoping that they can cherish the valuable learning chance and upholdthe motto of Jiangsu University and our faculty. The opening ceremony turned out to be the first lesson of freshmen education, helping them adapt more quickly to university life and be clear about their goals, thus lay a firm foundation for their future study.
