In order to make students better understand the seismic structure, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Mechanics, Jiangsu University and University of Science and Technology jointly organized a seismic structural model design competition with the theme of "comprehend professional knowledge, cultivate practical ability".

It is reported that this competition require participants to use sticks, latex, cotton and other materials to make models which can be of any shape, any structure but must meet height standards of 50cm ± 2cm. After finishing the model, each group started to add load to their models and check how much weight it can bear. In the end, Li Zhenrong’s team won the first prize by bearing 440g counterweight.

This activity provided an opportunity to combine theoretical knowledge with practical experiment, which can help students better comprehend what they have learnt in class.
